Born in Yokohama, Oakleaf grew up in Atlanta. He first rhymed before switching to freestyle. Oakleaf was so impressed of the Atlanta music scene that he dropped out of school when he was 14, even though he was broke as a church rat and somewhat lazy (with his ideas coming out faster than he could express them). Oakleaf worked hard as a construction worker over one summer, recording in the evenings and building up his technique and knowledge of the fundamentals of electronic music.
