Pertama berdiri tahun 1996, tepatnya pada tanggal 30 September. Awalnya sekelompok pemuda terdiri dari Aldonny, Heru, Dicky dan Hendra mencoba turut menyuarakan kepedihan mereka terhadap kehidupan. Dengan nama Mutant X mereka membawakan lagu lagu band kesukaan mereka. Seiring dengan perjalanan waktu mereka merasa nama Mutant X kurang Indonesia. Akhirnya terpilihlah JERUJI sebagai nama yang mewakili mereka pada saat dipanggil ke atas panggung.
