In January of 2008 the members of Intricate Machines converged on an apartment in San Francisco. They cleared the living room, replaced couches with keyboards and tables with amps. They brought with them every instrument they owned from sleigh bells to tabla, to synths and an ill-fated flute. This was the beginning of the six months of experimentation, which gave rise to the IM EP. Only six months prior the band recorded their first record, The Whale EP, in a two day frenzy of live, full band takes.
