Walking the line between remorse and joy, Ben Birchall and the Corrections take cues from Elvis Costello, Dylan and the Kinks and make some beautiful, miserable pop tunes. The Corrections kind of happened by accident. After the collapse of Birchall's previous band Klinger, he tried to go solo, but was followed by former Klinger rhythm section Darren Vlah (drums) and Glenn Arnup (bass). They formed the core of the backing band on Birchall's 2004 debut, Year of the Monkey, alongside Hovercrafts guitarist Dave McGann.
