 E.Fud I remember when Bruce introduced the song “gospel of bondage”, he is/was a Christian, and I believe it offends him that some people would co-opt the Bible to use it to wage war for political purposes, I believe it offends him when people take the gospel from his Lord, Jesus Christ, and perverted fragrantly and end up using it as a tool to bludgeon other humans with. Bruce specifically introduce this song, talking about the movement, called sanctuary, where refugees, persons who the state would have deemed as so-called illegal immigrants, were holed-up in the basement of churches, with those churches and those church communities sheltering and protecting them under the doctrine of sanctuary, and that that was working in this modern age in that the people got to remain on North American soil, and thus avoid extraction and being sent back to the places from which their lives were endangered. In addition to mentioning Sanctuary (as being a positive example of what churches exercising the love of Jesus do in their savior’s name), he also commented that he felt there were some so-called Christians who seemed to confuse the Bible with the American constitution, such that those persons thought the constitution was written by God and that F 18 military planes were needed to defend that document. Classic Bruce thoughtful area, diet, articulate, compassionate, and exceptionally human. His compassion and humanity along with his curiosity and extraordinary literary excellence, of course along with his musical genius, have been with him throughout all the decades and continue to serve him, and us, his adoring audiences, exceptionally well.
